About
General:
The Maryland Museums Association was founded in 1995 as the Maryland Association of History Museums. We are a private 501(c)3 non-profit organization as determined by the IRS and in good standing with the State of Maryland. Donations to MMA are tax-deductible.
Mission:
The Maryland Museums Association is a volunteer-managed alliance of institutions and individuals that collect, hold, interpret, and protect the material and cultural heritage of the Free State. We advocate for state museum funding, equity in the profession, and authentic interpretation of our shared histories in service of increased cultural understanding. MMA is Maryland's representative to the Coalition of State Museum Associations, a national non-profit that connects and strengthens state museum associations in order to build our collective capacity to advance the excellence of museums in every state.
Vision:
Maryland Museums Association strives to be an active and comprehensive resource for museum advocacy, professional education, and best resource management practices.
Guiding Principles:
We value the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Maryland and believe it should be supported and funded.
We recognize the contribution of each museum in the state regardless of size.
We promote professional education for our members by promoting diverse learning opportunities.
