Conference Scholarships

Maryland Museums Association (MMA) is pleased to welcome applicants working, studying, and/or volunteering in the museum field to apply for one of fifteen conference scholarships for upcoming museum conferences in Maryland!

Our intention with this scholarship is to ensure that folks contributing to the Maryland museum field are better financially able to attend these conferences in their state. Baseline registration can start at over $400.

Registration fees will be covered for five Marylanders to each of the following conferences: American Alliance of Museums (Baltimore, May 2024), Association of African American Museums (Baltimore, August 2024), and Small Museum Association (Gaithersburg, February 2025).

Registration fees will be paid directly by MMA. All other expenses, including conference add-ons, travel and lodging, will be the responsibility of the awardee. If you are interested in more than one conference, please complete an application form for each conference, however, awardees will only receive one scholarship.

Deadline Extended! Applications are due Friday, April 26, 2024.

We know that this is very close to the AAM conference dates in mid-May and will prioritize contacting those applying for that conference. Applications will be reviewed by the MMA Executive Committee based on need and merit. We encourage applicants from across Maryland, in all stages of their career and involvement with museums, and with diverse life and work experiences. Applicants must live, work, volunteer, and/or study in Maryland. Awardees will have no responsibilities to MMA during the conference but will be asked to complete an anonymous demographic survey as well as write a recap of their experience within three months of the conclusion of the conference.

MMA is able to offer these scholarships thanks to a grant from Maryland Humanities. Please learn more about the Marilyn Hatza Memorial Strengthening the Humanities Investment in Nonprofits for Equity (SHINE) Grant Program. You can donate to the Maryland Museums Association online here.
